SRINAGAR: On Saturday afternoon, an 8-year-old girl drowned in the Kishanganga river in the Neeru village of Gurez in the Bandipora district of north Kashmir, according to officials.

According to KNO, who cited an official, the girl, identified as Iqra Bano, slipped into the Kishanganga river close to her father Mohammad Jamal Mir’s Neeru village.

He claimed that although a rescue attempt was made shortly after, the girl had already passed away.

“The body was given to the family for last rites after medico-legal procedures were completed,” he said.
