Weather Update: Kashmir’s Cold Wave Continues: Srinagar Records Season’s Coldest Night at 5.4°C
Srinagar, December 14: As Kashmir continues to be gripped by a relentless cold wave, Srinagar recorded its coldest night of the season at minus 5.4°C.
According to a MeT official, Srinagar, the summer capital, experienced an unusually cold night, with temperatures plummeting to a bone-chilling minus 5.4°C. This stark difference highlighted a significant drop from the previous night’s reading of minus 5.3°C.
According to the official, Pahalgam experienced a significant temperature drop, registering minus 5.8°C. He stated that this was a decrease from the previous night’s temperature of minus 5.3°C.
Gulmarg, often referred to as a winter wonderland, maintained a consistent low of minus 5.0°C, he said. This mirrored the previous night’s temperatures, which were minus 5.5° C, he said.
Temperatures in Qazigund, another important location, fell to minus 3.8°C, down from minus 3.2°C the night before, he said. Kokernag reported a minimum (weather Update) temperature of minus 1.6°C, down from minus 2.1°C the night before.
Temperatures were slightly lower in Jammu, which is typically associated with a warmer climate, he said. According to him, the thermometer dropped to 6.7°C from 7.1°C the night before.
He predicted that dry and cold weather would continue over most of J&K until the 21st of December, with the possibility of a brief spell of very light snow in isolated extreme higher reaches of the North and North Eastern parts of Kmr Division during the night of the 16th.
He expects shallow to moderate fog to persist in many parts of the Kashmir division. (KS)
