Cricketer from Jammu and Kashmir Faces Two Year Ban from BCCI JKCA

SRINAGAR: A cricket player from Jammu and Kashmir was banned by the Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI) on Saturday due to alleged multiple birth certificate submissions.

The BCCI has banned cricketer Vanshaj Sharma, a resident of Bishnah, Jammu, for presenting multiple birth certificates with different dates of birth, according to a press release issued by the Jammu and Kashmir Cricket Association (JKCA) on the subject.

Brig Anil Gupta, Member Administration JKCA, said, “For this act, he has been banned from participating in all BCCI tournaments for a period of two years from October 27.”

Brig Gupta clarified that the player would not be allowed to participate in any BCCI age group competitions following the completion of the two-year ban, and would only be allowed to compete in the Senior Men’s Tournament.

The JKCA official went on, “In this case, Vanshaj Sharma moved to another state and applied as a member of the U-23 Men’s team of Bihar.” However, Brig Gupta noted that the BCCI had access to Vanshaj Sharma’s information ever since his initial registration with the JKCA in 2021–2022. Because of this, he was penalised for submitting more than one birth certificate even though his affiliation had changed.

The press release said, “As a result, he has been banned from engaging in age group tournaments for the rest of his life and from participating in any tournament for two years.”
