Police in Awantipora detain the groom and his father after they skip the wedding day festivities.
Jammu and Kashmir police in Srinagar have filed a complaint against a groom from Awantipora for allegedly skipping the wedding reception.
“On September 19, 2023, Police Station Awantipora received a written complaint from a complainant (name withheld) against one Fayaz Ahmad Dar and his father Mohammad Shaban Dar (s/o Ghulam Qadir Dar), resident of Kandizal Awantipra. The complaint stated therein that her wedding reception was scheduled for September 16, 2023, with one Fayaz Ahmad Dar, son of Mohammad Shaban Dar, resident of Kandizal Awan
The groom’s side abruptly cancelled the aforementioned wedding reception under the justification that the groom had fled and would not be there, thus invalidating the earlier nikah.
In response, the Awantipora police took notice of the situation and filed FIR No. 182/2023 U/S 420,498(A) IPC in police station Awantipora against the groom and his family, who have since been taken into custody.
