Bangladesh lost the 2023 ICC World Cup by a margin of 87 runs against the Netherlands. Following the defeat, a Bangladeshi fan was observed striking himself with a shoe. He pulled out his shoe and struck him in the face because he was so upset about his team’s performance.

The Netherlands easily defeated Bangladesh by 87 runs in Kolkata, handing them their fifth consecutive defeat in the tournament. The Netherlands had defeated high-flying South Africa by 38 runs at Dharamsala in a game that was postponed due to rain, and this was their second significant win over a test-playing country.
After winning the toss and choosing to bat first, Dutch captain Scott Edwards hit 68 off 89 balls and led the team to 229 before the Netherlands bowled out Bangladesh for 142 in 42.2 overs.
The opening World Cup match at Eden Gardens was a pacer’s paradise as Mustafizur Rahman, Taskin Ahmed, and Shoriful Islam, three of Bangladesh’s fast bowlers, shared six wickets between them. Edwards was dropped twice early in his innings, but he still managed to lead the comeback once more with a half-century.
After tumbling at 6-70 in the 18th over, Bangladesh was unable to rally and fast bowler Paul van Meekeren claimed 4-23 with his flawless seam bowling, which included the crucial wickets of captain Shakib Al Hasan, Najmul Hossain Shanto, and Mushfiqur Rahim.
With four points from six games, the Netherlands is ranked No. 8, while Bangladesh, which will play Pakistan on Tuesday in Kolkata, is ranked No. 9, having only triumphed once against Afghanistan in its opening game.
